Apprenticeships Go – 2nd December 2021
This event (6–7.30pm on the LearnLive platform) is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wanting to know more about apprenticeships. There will be employers telling us what they look for in someone who is applying for an apprenticeship, what stands out on a CV and sharing their top tips.
Apprentices from across the region will be answering questions from an interactive quiz and there will be a series of videos telling us the kind of work they do, why they chose to do an apprenticeship and more. All apprentices and employers will be live on the chat throughout the event to answer any questions about apprenticeships.
There will also be information on what kinds of apprenticeships there are, the different levels and where you can find them.
You could win one of five £20 Amazon Vouchers. All you need to do is register for the event and ensure that the box about ‘sharing information with your school’ is ticked.

Wellbeing Evening – 17th November 2021
On Wednesday 17th November (6–7pm) we are inviting parents and carers to attend school for a mental health information evening in the Main Hall.
The mental health and wellbeing of our young people is vitally important and now, more than ever, we hope to encourage our students to speak out, ask questions and access the support they need for their wellbeing.
The wellbeing evening will include a presentation from our Mental Health Lead Mrs Hunter alongside information from the School Nurse service and Kooth.com. The evening will explore a variety of mental health difficulties faced by young people together with practical strategies and advice for parents and carers to help support our students with their wellbeing.
We look forward to welcoming you all to the evening.

Early close – 12.15pm on 17th December 2021
The bus company have told us that they will not be able to send buses earlier to collect students for our early finish on the last day of term, 17th December. We know from the early finish for Open Evening before half-term that nearly all of you found alternative ways of children making their way home and only a handful actually used the buses on this day. We are assuming the picture would be similar again in December and would like to avoid the need for all buses to come to school at 3.15pm only for most to return to the depot empty. The most straightforward thing to do will be to cancel the buses altogether and make alternative arrangements for the few who are likely to need them.
Therefore, if your child will not be able to make their way home any other way on Friday 17th December, please let us know by Friday 3rd December by emailing amogey@lymmhigh.org.uk and we will organise transport home for them separately, probably via a school minibus. If the numbers involved mean that we do need to use school buses, we will make arrangements to look after your children until the buses leave at their normal times.
Year 11 Mocks
Dear Parent / Carer,
I am writing to update you on the plan for this half term as we begin preparation for the Year 11 mocks which will take place in December. The mock timetable will be available by the end of this week, with individual timetables being shared closer to the start of the mock examinations.
We hope that we will soon receive an update from the DfE on the plans for the awarding of grades in the very unlikely event that 2022 examinations are cancelled. We will then be able to provide you with information regarding the precise status of the mock exams in such an eventuality. That said, whatever the Government decide as regards their ‘Plan B’ should exams be cancelled is extremely unlikely to affect the way we expect students to approach the mock exams; there are lots of good reasons why they should always be approached with seriousness and we expect that all of our students prepare adequately for them. To help them with this, I have attached an overview of the revision that will be offered starting from Monday 1st November and will continue leading up to the December exams. The list is not exhaustive and may be subject to change, but it gives you a good idea as to what your child has on offer to support them with their mocks.
Additional to this, we will be hosting a virtual study skills support evening for families on Wednesday 10th November. The focus is on how to support your child with their revision, looking at the theory behind learning and practical steps on how to effectively revise. A zoom link will be sent out later this week for those who wish to attend. This will be led by our Assistant Headteacher Mrs Mulholland.
May I use this as an opportunity to remind you about the importance of students attending school, including form time. Students have 2 weekly form sessions dedicated to revision. One of these is directed towards using Tassomai and GCSE pod, 2 online platforms that your child has free access to and can be accessed both in school and at home. The second session will be focused on subject-specific revision starting this half term, using information provided by subject teachers. Students are also welcome to bring their own revision books into school with them to use during these sessions as an addition to the prepared material.
For some of our Year 11s, targeted intervention will also be running, and this will be led by various teachers for students where there may be concerns regarding their current progress or completion of coursework. You will be informed of these separately by the member of staff leading this.
If you have any further questions regarding the support for this half term, please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
Miss Taylor
Assistant Headteacher
